The effects of major depression

    The effects of major depression

MDD is well known to be associated with significant reductions in quality of life. Quality of life is defined as how a patient feels about what they have, how they are functioning, their ability to derive pleasure from their life activities. Quality of life in patients with MDD can be measured using the Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Questionnaire. QLESQ which has been shown to be both a reliable and valid measure of quality of life in depressed patients.

The effects of MDD on psychosocial function are perhaps the most disabling aspect of this condition. Studies generally report disturbances in most areas of social functioning. Compared to those without MDD, those affected by this condition have been found to experience a greater frequency or degree of social dysfunction, marital and household strain, financial problems, poor health status, and disturbances in leisure, academic, and occupational functioning.
